Cross was converted from a tram depot to a bus garage in July 1952 although
it was not ready immediately and some buses were outstationed at Peckham,
Camberwell, and Rye Lane.. New Cross also took over the operations of
(P) Old Kent Road in 1958 when that garage was closed, due to rationalisation
after the heavy cuts in November, following the bus strike. New Cross
is one of the largest garages in London and the operations have spread
all over London as the list below will testify. One of the unusual routes
was the inter-station route which only ran in the evenings but went
right into the bowels of the major main line stations. |
